At Care Solace, we believe that healing and growth are possible even after the most challenging experiences. Today, we share the story of one family's journey to rebuild after tragedy—thanks to the courage of a proactive mother and the timely support of a therapist connected through Care Solace. Their story shows that with the right resources, it's possible to navigate trauma, face uncertainty, and emerge stronger.
"I have three kids: my oldest is 12, my middle child is 10, and my youngest is 2," the mother shares. "When my oldest moved to middle school, we struggled to find a school therapist who was available. That’s when we turned to Care Solace."
At first, there was no immediate crisis—just a mother with a deep understanding of the importance of mental health. As an emergency room nurse, she sees firsthand the devastating mental health struggles that many young people face.
"I didn’t think my 12-year-old was going through anything serious at the time, but I wanted him to have someone to turn to, just in case. I see so many kids at work who confide in their therapist before they tell their parents."
Through Care Solace, she was able to find a therapist for her oldest child, someone who matched their insurance and location preferences, and who could provide both virtual and in-person support. It was a move she would later describe as "a blessing in disguise."
In February of that year, her husband, a military veteran, experienced a severe mental health crisis. "He hit rock bottom, and we had to leave our house in the middle of the night. We’ve been rebuilding ever since."
Amidst the turmoil, the therapist remained a stable presence, providing her 12-year-old with a safe space to process what was happening. "Having that support in place when everything else in our lives was falling apart was crucial. We had to move into a safe location, and while I was dealing with my own trauma, my son still had his therapist to turn to."
The mother's proactive approach to seeking mental health support helped her family navigate their unexpected crisis. "When my husband had his breakdown, the fact that my 12-year-old already had a trusted therapist in place made all the difference. He didn’t have to start building a relationship with a new therapist in the middle of a crisis—he already had someone who understood him."
As her family continues to rebuild, therapy has played a key role in helping her children process their emotions. "The therapist was able to work with him virtually during the hardest times, and that support allowed him to talk about what he was going through, even when I couldn’t be there emotionally."
Her advice to other parents facing trauma or uncertainty is to seek help early.
"You never know when you might need that support. I always tell other parents: talk to your school social worker, get a referral to Care Solace. Don't wait for a crisis to happen."
For this mother, Care Solace made an overwhelming process manageable. "They helped me navigate finding a therapist, stayed on top of the communication, and ensured we got the care we needed. I didn’t have to do it alone."
Today, her family is still working through the impact of that tragic night, but they are also on a path of healing and rebuilding. "My hope is that, one day, my kids will be able to process everything and have open conversations about what happened. Therapy will help them find the words and give them the tools to move forward."
This story is a powerful reminder that, even in the face of tragedy, rebuilding is possible. By addressing trauma and seeking the right support, families can find their way through darkness and begin to heal.
