The CYBHI marks a historic moment for school districts in California; beginning in 2024, schools will have the opportunity to submit on-site services for reimbursement from insurance providers. While CYBHI is a critical step in prioritizing the mental health of children and fueling a necessary and sustainable revenue stream for schools, successful implementation of the program requires significant investment in associated technology and new operational procedures. School health professionals will be responsible for navigating the complexities of medical billing, insurance and tracking down consent - in addition to providing, managing and tracking student interventions.
